MILE ONE

Every journey starts somewhere.

Made in the USA since 1993.

For Thousand Mile, it started in San Diego in 1993 with a lifeguard, a swimsuit, and the belief that the gear he was given wasn't good enough.

Thousand Mile
THE BEGINNING

IT STARTED WITH A SWIMSUIT

The city-issued gear didn't fit particularly well. It wasn't especially comfortable. And it didn't last the way hard-working gear should.

So we decided to make something better.

The first Thousand Mile product was a swimsuit, sold one at a time from the back of a VW bus. Word spread. What began as better gear for lifeguards grew into something much bigger—pants, shorts, shirts, pullovers, and outdoor clothing designed for people who valued comfort, durability, and simplicity.

That was Mile One.

FROM THE BEACH TO THE TRAIL

As Thousand Mile grew, so did the people wearing it.

Our clothing found its way into outdoor stores, surf shops, catalogs, government agencies, and closets around the world. Thousand Mile gear has been worn by lifeguards, explorers, members of the U.S. government and special forces, business leaders, and people simply looking for really comfortable clothing.

But the customer we're most proud of is the one who comes back years later looking for another pair of the pants they've practically lived in.

“I haven't taken these pants off in two weeks.”

“I've been wearing these for ten years.”

To us, those may be the best product reviews imaginable.

WHY THOUSAND MILE?

The name has always been about more than distance.

A thousand miles is a journey.

It can be the road from San Diego down the Baja California peninsula toward Cabo San Lucas—a thousand miles of coastline, mountains, desert, rough terrain, open water, and extraordinary natural beauty.

But it can also be something much simpler.

It's the journey through everyday life.

Thousand Mile is simply about providing quality comfort throughout your life's journey.

Wherever yours takes you.

WE LEARNED TO STAY TRUE TO OURSELVES

Like a lot of companies, there was a time when we thought we needed to follow fashion.

In 2006, we experimented with expensive jeans and more fashion-driven, country-club-inspired clothing.

It wasn't us.

More importantly, our customers knew it wasn't us.

That experience reminded us why Thousand Mile existed in the first place. We weren't here to chase trends. We were here to make comfortable, dependable clothing that people genuinely wanted to wear.

So we returned to our roots.
And we've stayed there ever since.

CLOTHING YOU REACH FOR

We don't design clothing around what's fashionable for a season.

We ask a much simpler question:
Will someone instinctively choose this over everything else in their closet?

That question guides the way we think about fabric, fit, comfort, construction, and durability.

We want to make the pants you throw on Saturday morning and somehow find yourself still wearing to dinner.

The shorts you pack for every trip.

The shirt that gets better with age.

The garment you eventually replace—not because you stopped liking it, but because you wore the first one so much.

Thousand Mile makes the clothing people keep reaching for.
